The West Asia regional ozone officers network was approved in 1997 to enhance, strengthen and catalyze efforts of member countries to achieve and sustain their compliance with the Montreal Protocol and its amendments targeting the phase out of the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) in a timely manner with minimum negative impacts on economic and social aspects.
The team of the Compliance Assistance Programme in West Asia is headed by a Regional Network Coordinator (RNC) and supported by a Programme Officer (HPMP) and a Programme assistant. Through utilizing the technical and policy expertise of the Compliance Assistance Program (CAP) based in Paris, proper advice and services are provided to West Asia countries to ensure sustained compliance through preparation and implementation of HPMPs to meet forthcoming Montreal Protocol targets and preserve the regional momentum of key emerging issues particularly policies, legislations and technological concerns as well as ensure continuation of the regional ODS network to address countries and regional needs through thematic meetings/sessions and south-south cooperation.
